Abstract
Les Ouled Abderrahman habitent dans le sud de l'Aurès, en Algérie. Ils sont des transhumants, éleveurs de chèvres et cultivateurs de céréales. Leur tribu est subdivisée en cinq fractions qui s'attribuent chacune un ancêtre commun: les Ouled Si M'hammed, les Ouled Daoud, les Ouled Si Ali Moussa, les Ouled Remili et les Ouled Khalllaf. L'article décrit la circoncision de deux cousins de la fraction des Ouled Khallaf et la célébration de deux mariages, l'un d'un membre de la fraction Remili avec une jeune fille de la fraction Si M'hammed, l'autre entre deux Ouled Remili. Les 'hiji', des "édifices" d'outres en couleurs spéciales, jouent un rôle central dans les deux cérémonies. L'article est fondé sur des recherches réalisées en 1935.

Fruit d'une symbiose ancestrale entre un site aux caprices nombreux et une profonde identité culturelle, le mode d'habiter dans les dechra aurassiennes est un des derniers témoignages, encore vécu, d'une organisation spatiale ancestrale. Toute la symbolique de la relation homme lieu de vie demeure encore présente dans toute sa diversité et son originalité. Cependant se heurtant aux exigences d'une ouverture récente sur le reste du pays, cette structuration spatiale connaît aujourd'hui un déclin. La facilité d'échange a engendré un affaiblissement du pouvoir traditionnel, une déstabilisation, voire une rupture au sein de la société aurassienne. L'espace de la civilisation occidentale vient se greffer sur une société à la recherche de modèle. Prise entre le désir de changement et la résistance aux mutations, la société aurassienne s'adapte. L'habitat est un des lieux particulièrement intéressants de cette évolution.

Abstract
This article discusses the specificity of French Orientalism on North Africa and shows how in its divide and rule policy, French colonialism constructed a discourse that opposes the Oriental Arab to the European Berber. It argues that French Orientalism, the bulk of knowledge that has been built in the context of colonization, though it has changed through time, continues to operate today both in the discourse of the former colonized and that of the former colonizer. In addition, the article draws the attention to the important fact that knowledge is not only a means of control and governance for the colonial machine, but it also contains categories by which imaginaries are shaped and colonial relations and attitudes are perpetuated.

Abstract
This study illustrates the traditional built forms in the rural areas of the Aures, Algeria. It presents a typological approach to the spatial organization of the dwellings within the Aures valleys. The region represents a wide range of architectural styles and structural features demonstrating the creative character of the Aures people, those act of building was an act handed from father to son and those knowledge formed a part of the communities heritage. Forms of building are discussed, with details of materials and constructions, and placed in their economic and environmental settings.
