-Hakkar's The Yellow House picked up three awards: the Don Quixote Award from the Fédération internationale des ciné-clubs (FICC), the Ecumencial Jury Prize and Third Prize from the Youth Jury.

-I was informed by Sarah Films that the yellow house will be available on dvd next year.
"...The movie of "la maison jaune" will be coming on DVD during the year 2008."

It's that time of the year again. Time to celebrate the music of Jermouni. Time to clebrate Aissa Jermouni. Jermouni festival takes place in the wilaya of Oum el Bouaghi. Three days of celebrations(July 24-26). This year the celebrations will be held in different parts of the wilaya : Oum el Bouaghi, Tamlilt , Ain Beida and Afakrun.

The Festival will feature Djamal Sabri, Bouzaher, Massinissa, Itren, Mourad Sid, Refaa...

Une académie et un conseil supérieur pour la langue amazigh

Les deux textes visent, selon le communiqué du Conseil de gouvernement, “à créer des institutions ayant pour objectif sa promotion et son développement dans toutes ses variétés linguistiques, en usage sur le territoire national”.

Attendue depuis déjà plusieurs mois, la décision prise hier par le Conseil de gouvernement de doter la langue amazigh de deux instruments à même de lui assurer la promotion va-t-elle constituer une révolution en la matière ? Certes, il est prématuré de s’avancer sur ce dossier tant que l’on ne sait pas encore les détails du projet ainsi que la composante de ces institutions et leurs missions, mais cela constitue sans nul doute une avancée dans le long chemin de la réhabilitation d’une des composantes essentielles de l’identité nationale.
Le Conseil de gouvernement a donc adopté après examen du dossier deux projets de décrets présidentiels présentés par le ministre de l'Éducation nationale portant sur les institutions à mettre en place pour la revalorisation de la langue amazigh, à savoir l'académie et le conseil supérieur de la langue amazigh. Les deux textes, pris en application de l'article 3 bis de la Constitution qui énonce que tamazight est également langue nationale, visent, selon le communiqué du Conseil de gouvernement, “à créer des institutions ayant pour objectif sa promotion et son développement dans toutes ses variétés linguistiques, en usage sur le territoire national”. Le premier projet de décret présidentiel porte création, missions, organisation et fonctionnement de l'académie algérienne de la langue amazigh qui est une institution nationale à caractère scientifique et culturel et le second a pour objet de fixer la création, les missions, l'organisation et le fonctionnement du conseil supérieur de la langue amazigh qui est une instance nationale.
Le communiqué du Conseil de gouvernement précise que cette institution et cette instance sont placées sous la tutelle de la présidence de la République. Elles consacrent, d’après toujours le communiqué, “la ferme volonté des pouvoirs publics d'accorder à cette dimension de notre identité nationale toutes les conditions aptes à lui permettre d'occuper la place qui lui revient dans notre société”. La mise en place de ces deux institutions découle directement des négociations qui ont eu lieu entre les représentants du mouvement citoyen de Kabylie et le gouvernement dirigé par Ahmed Ouyahia.

In 2006, The CNPLET organized a seminar titled Tamazight langue nationale en Algérie: Etat des lieux et problématique d'aménagement. The seminar dealt with many subjects related to Tamazight. The participants discussed subjects such as standardisation, teaching Tamazight, the alphabet issue...etc. The Aures region was represented by the author Mohamed Salah Ounissi and Gaouaou Manaa from El-Hadj Lakhdar University, Batna.

An international colloquium on Tifinagh, the earliest alphabet used to transcribe the Amazigh language, took place on Thursday (March 22nd) in Algiers. Organized by the High Commission for Amazigh (HCA), the conference was attended by distinguished social science experts from Niger, Morocco, Tunisia and France. Depuis la réouverture de la grande salle de spectacles de la maison de la culture Mouloud-Mammeri de Tizi-ouzou, au grand bonheur des férus de la chanson et de la musique, le public de la ville des Genets est périodiquement invité à découvrir des chants et des mélodies succulentes des diverses régions d’Algérie et d’ailleurs. Les concerts s’enchaînent et les mélomanes ont la chance de voir défiler au fur et à mesure leurs idoles aussi bien en solo qu’en groupe.
Après le célèbre groupe Raïna Raï, qui a animé un gala la semaine dernière, c’est au tour du groupe Ithrane (les étoiles), venu de la région d’Oum-El- Bouaghi, investi dans le genre rock chaoui, de récidiver. A fond la fête et mettant le feu aux poudres, la centaine de jeunes s’est donnée à cœur joie, dansant et accompagnant en chœur les multiples tubes des frères Farah (batteur), Hicham, alias “Zven le terrible” et Laïb (chanteur). Sous le charme, le public s’est laissé transporter par les morceaux joués avec virtuosité, comme Salat, un air populaire chaoui conjugué au rythme du rock, Slat ou slam, une composition du groupe, Lah yemma, un hommage à la mère, Dorth fellam, et bien d’autres titres en instrumental très bien exécutés par les deux solistes. Le groupe Ithrane est reparti en promettant de revenir une autre fois avec un répertoire plus étoffé et beaucoup de nouveautés. Le public pourra se procurer le deuxième album du groupe Ithrane dès le mois de juin prochain.

The Institute will run for four weeks, from June 25 to July 20, 2007 on the campus of Oregon State University in Corvallis, located eighty miles south of Portland and some fifty miles from the Pacific Ocean. Because Berber North Africa has rarely been the object of rigorous academic attention in the United-States, we are very excited at the prospect of bringing together some of the foremost scholars of Berber culture and twenty-four college and university teachers wishing to integrate the Berber world into their coursework and research .../...

Summer Institute On Berber North Africa

CORVALLIS, Oregon - Oregon State University has been awarded a grant by the National Endowment for the Humanities to host a summer institute that will bring a team of international scholars to campus. NEH awarded the university a grant of $155,000, which will be used to host a summer institute titled "Berber North Africa: The Hidden Mediterranean Culture."

OSU is one of only nine universities in the country to host a summer institute in 2007.

The institute will be held June 25 through July 20, 2007 on the OSU campus. It will be hosted by Joseph Krause, professor of French and the chair of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, and by Nabil Boudraa, assistant professor of French and Francophone studies.

In addition to some of the leading world specialists in North African cultural studies, 24 college and university teachers will be selected to participate following a national call for applications. These teachers will have the chance to work closely with the scholars.

The Berbers (also called Amazigh people or Imazighen, meaning "free men" in Berber) are an ethnic group indigenous to northwest Africa.

There also will be many cultural events related to the Berbers that will be available free to the community.

Jermouni Festival

Latti3ad n Tshawit reported that Oum el Bouaghi will play host to the annual Jermouni festival, July 24-27. The event celebrates the life and the music of the legendary Aissa Jermouni(1886-1946).

A long list of musicians (local and national) are expected to participate in the event. The shawi participants will include Djamal Sabri, Hamid Bouzaher, Sabri Ahcene, Nasr Eddine Ferah, Irahaban and many others...

Other cultural activities such as seminars, lectures, art shows and crafts are scheduled to take place. Mohamed Saleh Ounissi, Mohamed Nadhir Sbaa and Mohamed Lakhdar Mouagal are scheduled to give lectures.
